Viscaya Museum and Gardens

Like I said last week, I really want to show that Miami is more than beaches and shopping- there are amazing places... like this one. The last time I visited this "museum and garden" was in 2007 so I was super excited of going again, I love it because you feel you are in a totally different place.Vizcaya was the winter residence of American industrialist James Deering from Christmas 1916 until his death in 1925. When it was built, the Miami population was around 10,000 and 1,000 were working on this project! The house was intended to appear as an Italian estate that had stood for 400 years and had been occupied and renovated by several generations of a family. It has 34 decorated rooms with 15th through 19th century antique furnishings and art objects. Sadly, you can't take pictures inside the house but the gardens and the bay view is GORGEOUS! Este el tipo de cosas que uno jamás se imaginaría que están en Miami- como les he dicho, Miami es una ciudad tan nueva que casi todo el mundo solo la relaciona con compras e ir a la playa. Y me he puesto como misión intentar mostrarles diferentes sitios turísticos que hay, la última vez que fui a este "museo" fue en el 2007 y quedé impresionada, te sientes en otra ciudad. Para contarles un poquito, era la mansión de vacaciones de invierno de James Deering, construida en 1911- cuando la población de Miami era solo 10,000 personas. La casa es un espectáculo, lamentablemente no dejan tomar fotos adentro de la casa pero uno puede entrar a todas las habitaciones. La casa está construida como si fuera de 1500, y tiene decoraciones de cada siglo para que pareciera que muchas generaciones vivieron ahí (hasta tiene un piso escondido en donde hay 12 cuartos para la gran cantidad de personal que trabajaba ahí). Luego en la parte de afuera puedes apreciar la playa, unos jardines muy europeos, y una arquitectura bellísima. Lamentablemente, el dueño muere en 1925 y en 1926 un huracán causa muchísimos daños (como el barco que ven abajo, que seguro era como un muelle). Red, sheer, and leopard

I had a lot of time without wearing my red jeans (click here to see how I've worn them)- this time I decided to paired them with a sheer blouse as a cardigan, a simple tank top, and touches of leopard. The sheer blouse is originally super elegant, I know I would wear it as a button up to. This is another "modified outfit"- I wore it to school without the fedora and black flats. However, I got out super early of my first final so I spent the day with my parents (they are visiting from Venezuela). Tenía tiempo sin usar mis pantalones rojos (si quieres ver como los he usado, haz click aquí), así que esta vez decidí combinarlos con leopardo y una blusa transparente como si fuera un "blazer" o cardigan- es tan delgado que es perfecto para el calor de Miami pero cubre un poco en el frío de los aires acondicionados. Este es otro outfit "modificado"; para lo universidad lo utilicé sin la federa y con flats color negro- pero salí super temprano de mi primer examen final entonces salí a comer y a pasar con mis papás que están visitando en Miami. Denim on Denim

I think I have never worn jeans in this blog ( I haven't worn them in ages!). I don't know why after I graduated I started hating jeans, I really don't know how to explain it. I feel like a lot of people wear jeans as a uniform, they were them every single day and just pick a random t-shirt. Not wearing jeans challenged me to be more creative with my closet. Back to my outfit, I finally found the perfect bell-bottom jeans, I love the color and they are super comfy (oh, I almost forgot, and they cost me $15!!). I wanted to wear denim on denim- I love that trend but didn't have two completely different shades of denim. I kept the accessories simple and I just added my new leopard bag (isn't it gorgeous!?). I was about to buy it a couple of months ago but I don't know why I hesitated and then, it was sold out everywhere (even online). However, I saw that Flor de Maria Fashion just got one and I spoke with her and I ran to the nearest Aldo to get it - it was the last one! About my day: I went to class feeling so sick, came back home and slept the whole afternoon. When I woke up, I felt better so I decided to dress up a little and go out with my boyfriend and get ice-cream. Would you wear denim on denim? What did you think!? XOXO

Creo que nunca me habían visto usando jeans en el blog.. ¿verdad? No se porque después de graduarme de la universidad les agarré un poquito de fobia- es algo que no puedo explicar pero me siento desarreglada en ellos. Siento que muchas caemos en la rutina de usar un jean con cualquier camisa en el closet porque es FACIL y dejar de usar jeans me retó a ser más creativa. Volviendo al outfit de hoy, tenía tiempo buscando unos jeans bota ancha y encontré estos el fin de semana por $15!! Me encantó el color, y aparte son comodísimos.Lo quise combinar con una camisa de jean- recuerda que para que denim con denim se vea bien, los colores del jean/mezclilla deben ser totalmente diferentes. Mantuve los accesorios simples, y les quería mostrar una nueva adquisición que llevaba siglos buscando también... la cartera de leopardo.  La vi hace tiempo en la tienda (Aldo) pero no me decidía y luego vi que se había agotado en internet y en todos lados- hasta que hablé con Flor (que también la tiene) y me dijo que corriera a la tienda que tienen pocas.... esta era  la última que tenían. Sobre mi día: fui a clases en la mañana y regresé a dormir toda la tarde por eso de que me sentía mal.... cuando me desperté me sentía como nueva y me animé a vestirme y salir a comer un helado con mi novio.. nada del otro mundo. ¿Qué les parece el denim con denim? ¿Lo han usado? ¿Se atreven?

The sparkly headband!

The other day, I got a question on Formspring about leggings- she wanted me to show her how I would wear them. I specially love them for traveling and those days you just want to be super comfy. However, I challenge myself to dress them up a little and this is what I came up with: blazer, heels, a little bag and a sparkly headband really transform the outfit. This outfit can be worn with flats instead of heels and a big tote for the everyday life and it still looks amazing! I really wanted to wear this headband- a friend from school made it for me. She does  handmade headbands and they are GORGEOUS! (like her on Facebook: Valentina Hidalgo Acessories). This is what I wore to have dinner with my bf; after studying like crazy the whole Thursday, I really needed a break. I hope you have an amazing weekend!

El otro día me preguntaron por Formspring que si usaba leggings y que si podía usarlos. A mi me encantan especialmente para esos días que quieres estar cómoda - especialmente al viajar. Así que lo tomé como un reto y los quise combinar de una forma que se vieran bastante arregladitos. Es impresionante como el blazer cambia el look- si quieres algo más casual este outfit se ve igual de lindo con unos flats y una cartera grande para tu día a día. Les cuento sobre mi headband, las hace una amiga de la universidad. Todas son hechas a mano, y ella me cuenta que ninguna es igual a la otra ya que utiliza materiales distintos. Esta me pareció una belleza; y aunque estaba que no fuera a contrastar por mi cabello oscuro, las lentejuelas le dan el toque perfecto (Síganla en Valentina Hidalgo Accessories). Esto fue lo que utilicé para ir a cenar con mi novio ayer jueves- después de estudiar para un examen hoy y preparar una presentación... necesitaba despejarme un ratito. Espero que tengan un feliz fin de semana!!

Miami Fashion Week

Yesterday I was invited to a fashion show called Cosmo Splash, sponsored by Covergirl, Pantene, and Cosmopolitan. I know you have already seen this outfit, I wore it as part of the AM-PM challenge- but, as I said there, I was saving it to this event. Also, I changed the accessories while keeping the color-blocking intact. We (Tati from Furor, my bf and I) got there very early, so we had time to socialize with other bloggers and media, we had some cocktails and got ready for the fashion show. My boyfriend was the official photographer, he looked like he had so much fun shooting the models ( he even had a spot with all the media). He took amazing pictures, they look so professional, I will dedicate a full post to show you my favorite looks on the runway and some trends I saw. Sofía Vergara's sister sang before the show- she's the one wearing a maxi leopard dress in the pictures below; and then, several designers presented their swimsuit/summer collections. It was so much fun, I'm very grateful because I was there thanks to all your support! I hope you have a great weekend and, again, thank you for stopping by! YOU ROCK!

Ayer tuve la oportunidad de ir al fashion show llamado Cosmo Splash, patrocinado por CoverGirl y Pantene. Se que algunas van a decir que estoy repitiendo el outfit del reto (del día a la noche), pero como les dije en ese post: este outfit lo estaba guardando para este vento. Le cambié todos los accesorios, pero lo que más llama la atención (los bloques de color de la falda/camisa) sigue siendo el mismo. Fui con Tati de Furor y llegamos bastante temprano, y tuvimos tiempo de compartir con otras blogueras, tomarnos unos tragos, y prepararnos para el show. Mi novio estuvo de fotógrafo profesional, tenía su espacio con toda la prensa para tomarles fotos a las modelos (hoy les dejo un pequeño adelanto pero mañana quiero compartir con ustedes los looks que más me gustaron y algunas tendencias que ví, ¿les parece bien?). Antes de empezar el show, la hermana de Sofía Vergara cantó unas canciones (la pueden ver abajo con un vestido largo de leopardo). Después varias diseñadores presentaron colección dedicada a la parte de traje de baño y verano. Perdonen que todavía no les he contado como me va en la universidad ni hemos publicado el reto pero pronto todo regresará a la normalidad. Feliz fin de semana a todas!
