10th Annual CFDA 2011 Awards Red Carpet--Models and Designers

Fashion A-List...

Last night's 2011 CDFA Awards Red Carpet was not only full of Hollywood's A-List ladies--but also, chock full of models and their designers. This event, as you saw from my previous posting is on par with many of the top red carpet events and is known delivering Fashion--with a Capital "F" (hello Miss Lady Gaga!). Anyhow, let's see if these gorgeous supermodels and their designers make the NY Fashion Grade. Let's begin with...

Miranda Kerr: Australian Victoria's Secret Angel Supermodel--and SuperMommy, Miranda Kerr, wore Michael Kors Resort 2012, a black tank dress with high sarong-silhouette slit, side cut-outs and gold low-slung belt. Very Michael Kors, very Americana Sportswear-meets-St. Tropez, and very Chic! I especially love the "Wonder Woman" gold cuffs. I bet those are to ward off any EVIL Fashion Spirits. I need those!

Karolina Kurkova: Miss Kurkova--one of my FAVE Supermodels wore an emerald green sequin HOODIE gown with pockets by Diane Von Furstenberg. Sequins, Hoodie, and Pockets? I am Done and Done! Only a model--or a Drag Queen--can get away with this! Love--even the "high-water" length of the gown. This Czech beauty knows how to WORK IT!

Hana Soukupova:
Another fabulous model from the Czech Republic, six-footer Hana Soukupova, dazzled on the 2011 CFDA Awards Red Carpet in a one-shoulder ruffled and tiered gown by Marchesa Spring 2011. Love it all. Now this is how you wear a gown to the CFDA Awards Lucy Liu!

Marchesa Designers: Speaking of Marchesa, they were there--English-born New York-based designers Keren Craig (Left) and Georgina Chapman (Right), also dazzled in their own designs as they stepped onto the purple CFDA Awards carpet last night.

Doutzen Kroes: Dutch-born beauty Doutzen Kroes also decided to give SLIT (like several of the other models) in this fire-red (almost) one-shoulder asymmetrical gown from J. Mendel. The subtle diagonal draping and pleating is exquisite. And those PUMPS!!!! Hello!

Derek Lam and Liya Kebede: Designer Derek Lam, seen above with Ethiopian-born Supermodel Liya Kebede--wearing Derek Lam of course. She looked very "Easy-Breezy" Resort-esque, love the fresh, flowing side-parted hair as well as the mini clutch. Effortless. I also love the wine-colored slip-on's on Derek.

Chanel Iman: Speaking of "Easy-Breezy", Chanel Iman was at the CFDA Awards last night and wore a very relaxed turquoise-colored caftan with high center-front slit (a theme of the night?) by Max Axria. She was very Disco 1979 as well (like Karolina Kurkova, see above). This is also looking like a Theme. Ladies, better get that Saturday Night Fever album out of the closet and start dancin'!

Karlie Kloss and Jason Wu: Models loved those relaxed comfy dresses, don't they? Here model-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss wore a simple, spaghetti strap red gown with skinny black belt from Designer-of-the-Moment Jason Wu. I can see this gown on First Lady Michelle Obama like TOMORROW! Jason, seen above with Karlie, looked very dapper in suit and tie. This just could be the CUTEST Prom Date Photo.

Zac Posen and Sessilee Lopez: Designer Zac Posen arrived to last night's CFDA Awards with American model of Dominican descent Sessilee Lopez, who wore a gold-nude sweetheart neckline multi-seamed gown by Zac Posen, naturally. That gold-nude color always looks AMAZING on women with the fabulous skin tone of Sessilee. I also like the fact that Zac never met a cummerbund he didn't like. Bring back the cummerbund I say! Another example of a cute Prom Pic!

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen: Actresses, Designers and BILLION-DOLLAR Mega Brand, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were Nominated for the Emerging Talent CFDA Award last night for their clothing design company "The Row" which has garnered both critical and editorial acclaim, the "Anna Wintour Stamp of Approval" and doing fabulously well at retail. They attended last night's event, of course, in style! Mary-Kate (Right) wore a gold Chanel jacket with a The Row (their own line) fishtail hem skirt and Louis Vuitton strappy heels. Ashley (Left), wore The Row dress, and Manolo Blahnik heels. Both accessorized it with great handbags from their line (naturally), The Row. The bags alone are estimated to retail for $5,450!!!

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: Panty Raid!

In the spirit of tonight's airing of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, I thought I would do a little catch up and give my "Behind the Scenes" Blog to accompany my video that was posted on bravotv.com and now here.

I was at the University of Kansas for an appearance when I got the call to do backstage and "Pink Carpet" correspondance for the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Two days later, back in Los Angeles, I cut my class short and headed on the 101 to Hollywood. The thought of being with the most beautiful women in the world made me almost get in an accident as I texted about half a dozen of my closest of friends!
I showed up, in my pink polo shirt ready for my assignment. I was to ask the girls just one question: “What is in your lingerie drawer?” Before, I could say “Joe Boxer”; I was whisked to a private room in back of the Renaissance Hotel, next to the Kodak Theater where the models were preparing for the show. Immediately, I run into Karolina Kurkova. I just love pronouncing her name. I feel like a Russian ballet instructor every time I say it. I had met Karolina at another Victoria’s Secret event and she recognized me. We chatted and even did some “dirty dancing” while singing “Sexy Back”.

Once inside the hallowed chambers of the make-up and hair room, I almost felt numb. It was a fantasy come true. From my participation on Season 2 of Project Runway, it was obvious that I adore models. They are, as I said, my muses. Imagine, for me, not just being in a room with models, but with Supermodels. Gisele Bundchen, fellow Brazilian, Adriana Lima, exotic Oluchi Onweagba, they were all there getting ready. I didn’t know what to do other than to want to do a “model walk off” with them. I could not, of course for obvious reasons, notwithstanding the fact that they were busy getting their rollers, hair extensions, and fake eyelashes on,but more importantly, I am certain that there are public decency laws in California that prevent me from wearing Victoria's Secret Pink Panties.

Camera in tow, I proceeded to ask the models my “What is in their drawers” question. Gisele was sweet and professional, saying she likes thongs and lacy bras to feel sexy. Then I spotted “Victor & Rolf” muse, Brazilian Raquel Zimmermann, and congratulated her on her “wedding” to the design duo earlier this month here in LA. I approached several other Victoria’s Secret models, including Izabel Goulart, Angela Lindvall, Allesandra Ambrosio, and got some fun answers to my cheeky question of the day.

The show began with a hot performance by Justin Timberlake. Now, I must admit that I liked Justin’s music but was not always a “fan”. I have always been more of a Jay Kay of Jamiroquai fan. He has been MY Justin when Justin was still in High School! However, after seeing Mr. Timberlake in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show performing several of his songs live and dancing his little booty off, well, I was ready to get my “Justin” membership card. I became a 14 year old girl in an instant, screaming and yelling. While seeing the Godesses of Ubermodels work the Swarovski crystal runway, one quickly figures out why these divine creatures make the money they make. They are worth every Euro, or Brazilian Real.
Those "America's Next Top Model" wannabes need to watch this show and take note. I have a feeling most of these girls were born walking this way; there was no need for a class with "Miss Jay".
The After Party was held nearby at The Roosevelt Hotel and before I knew it, most of the cast of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” was hovered around me in conversation. For the rest of the night, I chatted with hottie actor, Justin Chambers and his lovely wife, Keisha, as well as actors, Sarah Ramirez, and Kate Walsh. I discovered that they were all fans of Project Runway and we spoke of having me design them a dress or two. My evening ended going home after I caught myself staring at the Roosevelt pool and wanting to jump in it.
Here is the Behind the Scenes video I did, just in case you missed it before. It will also be in my permanent video section on the side of this blog in case you need a little dose of Supermodel to brighten up your day...(or make you feel more depressed!).
