GIVEAWAY ENDEDNANCY'S THEORY OF STYLE
BY GRACE COOPERSMITH
Lively young socialite Nancy Carrington-Chambers has always believed an excellent sense of style and strict attention to detail are what it takes to succeed, but her own husband Todd is showing symptoms of incurable tackiness, so Nancy flees their McMansion for her posh San Francisco apartment. She knows her event planning company, Froth, is a real winner, but she must prove herself by reinventing the turgid Barbary Coast Historical Museum fundraiser. Luckily, Nancy now has the perfect assistant. Derek Cathcart is British, impeccably dressed, gorgeous, and clearly gay—so why does Nancy find him so attractive?
Before Nancy can unravel her feelings, her irresponsible cousin Birdie abandons her little daughter with Nancy and takes off. Nancy, Derek, and Eugenia make an unlikely “family,” but strangely it seems incredibly right. Now Nancy’s parents are pressuring her to return to Todd, and she still has to pull off a spectacular party. For someone who’s always known exactly where she’s going, Nancy is in dangerously uncharted waters.
Irresistibly funny and romantic, Nancy’s Theory of Style shows that happiness and love—just like fashion—aren’t about playing it safe.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Here is some information I found out about author, Grace Coopersmith, from her own website. You can find out more about her as well if you go to http://www.gracecoopersmith.com/blog/. I hope Grace won't mind my sharing a little of this with you from the blog part of her website.
In it she writes about herself and says:
"I’m a San Francisco Bay Area native and still live there. I went to Stanford, where I studied creative writing, literature, and theatre. (I had a mad idea that I wanted to be a theatre reviewer. Anyway…)
With this extremely useful ability to sit around and read books and talk about them, I took miscellaneous low-paying jobs . I frequently worked for non-profits, including theatre companies. One of my job skills was properly opening a bottle of champagne for special guests. I can’t remember if I put that on my resume
I was a frequent contributor of home, gardening, and style columns and features for newspapers and magazines. So, yes, I have written in-depth articles about modern wallpaper trends, worm composting, and luxury home libraries.
Right now, I’m working on another novel set in San Francisco."
NANCY’S THEORY OF STYLE by Grace Coopersmith is just what I needed for a fun summer read. I am planning on a two week trip to visit, who else?, my new grandson, and wanted things to read while he naps that are enjoyable and clever and don’t need an encyclopedia nearby to understand it. Grace Coopersmith’s book would have been on top of that pile had I not opened it for just a preview, and then couldn‘t put it down! Spent the rest of the day being a slug but loving every minute of it!.
In NANCY’S THEORY OF STYLE, Coopersmith writes about Nancy Edith Carrington-Chambers and the names does tell you a lot about her. Brought up in a well-to-do family, Nancy attended all the right schools and could wear those expensive clothes as if they were made just for her (and some were). She, of course, ran with THE people growing up so it is easy to see how she married the perfect man in Todd Chambers. It is easy to understand how style, Nancy’s style, was always spot on. Sadly, not all that glitters is, well, you know! After about a year of marriage and the completion of what Nancy thought would be her dream house, with magazines yearning to photograph it, she realized it is not that at all.
Nancy Carrington-Chambers seeks success in all that she does and pays great attention to even the tiniest detail. She has her own “Theory of Style “and keeps track of her ideas in a notebook in hopes of publishing them as a book someday. Her dream home was to be part of her great sense of style but when a wet bar winds up in her master bedroom because Todd changed her plans while she was away on vacation, she is devastated. She realizes that her style sense is suffering and so she moves to her family’s Pacific Heights apartment in a very ritzy San Francisco zip code. Deciding to take a break in her marriage, that Todd too eagerly agrees to, she wants to spend all her time with FROTH, her newest venture, an event planning business. From here the story takes a turn I didn’t expect.
Nancy hires a gorgeous assistant named Derek, very British and very gay but so stylish! Taking on an exclusive society fundraiser with Froth, she is no more prepared had she been working on it for months, when suddenly her cousin decides to leave her four-year-old daughter, Eugenia, with Nancy while she is on vacation. Just these two characters and the way that Coopersmith develops them is enough to keep you in stitches and interested. Add into that the fact that even though it can’t be, Nancy is feeling attracted to Derek, things become very complicated. Nancy can’t be attracted to Derek, can she? And is she really starting to feel something for this little snippet of a girl, Eugenia? With a prenup in place and Todd’s best friend also in pursuit of Nancy, things become very complicated and if you pay attention, you will THINK you know what will happen, but do you? I know this much, you will have a good time reading NANCY’S SENSE OF STYLE!
