ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:

International bestselling author Jeffrey Archer has spent the last five years gathering spellbinding stories from around the globe. These fifteen brand-new tales showcase Archer's talent for capturing an unforgettable moment in time, whether tragic, comic, or outrageous.

In India, Jamwal and Nisha fall in love while waiting for a traffic light to turn green on the streets of Delhi.

From Germany comes “A Good Eye,” the tale of a priceless oil painting that has remained in the same family for over two hundred years, until...

To the Channel Islands and “Members Only,” where a golf ball falls out of a Christmas cracker, and a young man's life will never be the same...

To Italy and “No Room at the Inn,” where a young man who is trying to book a room at a hotel ends up in bed with the receptionist, unaware that she...

To England, where, in “High Heels,” a woman has to explain to her husband why a pair of designer shoes couldn't have gone up in flames...

Some of these stories will make you laugh while others will bring you to tears but, once again, every one of them will demand that you keep turning the page until you finally discover what happens to this remarkable cast of characters.

MY REVIEW:

THEREBY HANGS A TALE by Jeffrey Archer is a delight to listen to on an audio book. This collection is made up of 15 stories which Archer has gathered from around the world over the last five years and most of them are based on true experiences. The short stories run the gamut from humor to romance to thriller. It has been a long time since I have read short stories and the first time on an audio book. Being a book of short stories lends itself to an audio book for obvious, practical reasons if for no other reason than you can listen to one full story in a short sitting and stop until you have time to go back to it again. Not to say you can’t do that by reading the book, but for myself, it is a the perfect way to relax for a few minutes and rest my eyes if I only have time for a mini-break.

Jeffrey Archer is not new to short stories as this is his sixth collection. He has a way of picking what I feel are just the right length, kind, and variety of genres. Five of the stories were written strictly by Archer himself.  The remaining ten of the fifteen stories in THEREBY HANGS A TALE are based on stories Jeffrey Archer found while he was traveling for about the last six years.

Archer shows why he is a bestselling author with his natural talent in creating intriguing characters and writing well developed stories that are inventive and entertaining. With the perfect amount of humor or suspense, each story is very different but all come with the cunning twist at the end and are reminiscent of O’ Henry. This is a real treat for the reader, or in this case, the listener.
